They are definitely some of the best hunting waders you will find in the sports marketplace.
Summary: Top 5 Hunting Waders
Editor’s Rating (out of 5.0)
Waterfowl hunting is so popular there are a large variety of waders in the sports marketplace to choose from. You don’t just want to buy the first pair you come across online or on the store shelf. There are certain features of hunting waders that you want to focus on in order to make a sound buying decision.
Here are the key hunting wader characteristics to consider when looking to buy a new pair of them:
Hunting waders come in one of two heights. There are hip waders and chest waders. From my personal experience, I would never even consider hunting waterfowl in a pair of hip waders. This is mostly personal preference but you have a much better chance of staying dry with chest waders.
There is not a lot of choices these days in material that hunting waders are made of. Most are made out of neoprene. If they are made out of another material you may want to think twice about buying them.
- Plain versus camouflage
Deciding whether to wear plain or camouflage colored waders is often times personal preference. You should also consider whether you will be out in the open or under cover such as in a duck blind. If you are out in the open then camouflage waders will help you stay concealed better.
If you do decide to go with a camouflage pattern then pick one that matches the surroundings you will be hunting in. If you wear predominantly light green camo waders in an area that is dark green and brown you will be defeating the purpose. You will actually be easier to see by any type of waterfowl in the area.
There are two basic thicknesses that hunting waders are generally sold in. They are 3.5 mm and 5 mm in thickness. A 5 mm thickness wader is sturdier and will last you longer but it is also more cumbersome and expensive.
When you are dealing with a product that is seam welded then you better make sure you get a good warranty on it. You certainly want to be able to return a pair of hunting waders that has a material defect in it. Leaking waders kind of defeat the purpose of wearing them.
If your waders do ever get a hole in them and they are not under warranty here is an informational video on how to easily patch them:
